At 1:22 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2016 our beloved Sarah A. Gay, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great-Great Grandma, Aunt and Friend went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ whom she loved and served for many years. Her Godly life has been a testimony to her family and many others.
She was born in Spiceland, Indiana to the late Isaac Richard and Louise Grace (Holder) Smith on March 18, 1915. She was married to her devoted husband Arthur L. Gay on September 10, 1932. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1985. Also preceding her in death was her daughter June Gay Fry in January of 2000, a grandson, Jeff Fry and a Great grandson Jeff Fry Jr., 4 brothers Dan, Kyle, Walter and Howard Smith, and 4 sisters Esther Biggs, Eliza Hoover, Dicie Court, and Georgia Vernasco.
Surviving and left behind to meet her in Heaven someday is her son Richard (LaDonna) Gay of Cassopolis, Michigan and Doris (Bill) Silveus of Union, Michigan, as well her grandchildren Evan (Peggy) Gay, Aden (Lori) Gay, Jonathan (Kim) Silveus, Dennis (Sara) Silveus, Cal (Carol) Silveus, Mike (Jill) Silveus, Denise (Jay) Breden, Cindy (David) Kwast, Susan (Gary) Naragon, & Cris (Bud) Walterhouse. She also loved her many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was a faithful and charter member of the Cedar Road Missionary Church in Osceola where she was involved for many years in the music and women’s group “The Voyagers.” Many pastors ministered to her through the years and her personal devotion to God’s Word was a vital part of her life.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 from 3-7 pm at Zimmerman Inman Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 12:00 pm funeral service on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Cedar Road Missionary Church with one of her pastors, Reverend Harold Knight, presiding. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Gardens.
Besides being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she collected electric bills in Osceola for 10 years. She loved to cook and for several years helped out at the former “Coffee Pot” in Osceola. She enjoyed the “Osceola Lunch Bunch” and was also the floor representative at Stratford Commons where she lived for several years and loved and appreciated her many friends there.
A special thank you to our family and friends who have been such a wonderful help since Sarah became homebound. A greatly appreciated Hospice group was wonderful, and we wish to extend a special thanks to Stacey and Kristen for being so kind and compassionate.
