Steven Jay Manges, 67, of South Bend passed away peacefully in Mishawaka on October 23, 2023. He was born November 10, 1955, in Mishawaka, to the late Dean Manges and Betty (Bailey) Jones. Steve married his beloved wife Susie Feliciano on May 27, 2006. Their combined families gave Steve great joy. They held and attended many family parties and highly anticipated playing Mr. and Mrs. Claus at annual work parties.
Steve always said he had the best childhood. One of his favorite stories was digging up the backyard with his siblings for a surprise swimming pool. Steve graduated from Riley High School before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He was promoted to Sergeant in charge of the armory and received medals for Rifle, Pistol Sharpshooter, and Good Conduct. Steve proudly served overseas in Okinawa, Japan. After his time in the Marines, Steve worked and retired from Welches Packaging as a truck driver in December 2020, after 20 years of service and many, many miles over the road. He was a member of Cedar Road Missionary Church and was a firm believer and actively practiced his faith in everyday life.
Steve will be remembered for his kind soul, big heart, contagious smile, and infectious laugh. In spite of his struggles, he often commented “I’ve had a wonderful life” and “I love God, my country, and family.”
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Benjamin Jones, daughter Elizabeth Adams, and brother, Thomas Manges. He is survived by his wife Susie, children David (Jessica) Manges, Tony (Jen) Feliciano, Steve (Juanita) Feliciano, Scott (Chica) Feliciano, Lil Mansfield, Tanya (Mel) Freet, 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Along with his siblings, David (Rosie) Manges, Jack (Polly) Manges, Diane (Craig) Cummins, Paul (Irene) Jones, Nancy Bailey, and many other extended family who were special to him.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2 pm at Cedar Road Missionary Church, Mishawaka. Family and friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Road Missionary Church. To light a virtual candle, share a story of Steve’s life, or leave a message of comfort for his family, please visit the Tribute Tab above.
