December 24, 1955 — September 11, 2022

Mishawaka

William Dennis “Bill” Hummer, age 66, passed away suddenly at his home in Mishawaka on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  Bill was born on December 24, 1955, in Mishawaka, Indiana to William Edward and Elizabeth “Ann” (Lambert) Hummer. Bill was a graduate of Penn High School, class of 1974. While out cruising town one evening in the mid-1970’s, a cute girl in a 1969 Camaro caught his eye.  Her name was Linda Kochel, and on June 7, 1978, Bill and Linda were married in Elkhart, Indiana.  They recently celebrated 44 years of marriage.

Linda survives, along with their children Robert “Bob” Hummer of Osceola and Lisa Hummer of Mishawaka.  Surviving as well is the apple of Bill’s eye- his granddaughter Jennifer Hummer, who Bill affectionately referred to as “The J.”  Bill’s siblings, Patricia Martin and her husband Michael and John Hummer and his wife Cindy, all of Osceola, survive as well, along with several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father William in 2007, his mother Ann in 2019, and his little brother Scot Hummer in 2020.

Following Bill’s wishes, there will be no formal services held.  His family asks that you each remember him in your own special way.  Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola is assisting with the arrangements.

Bill was a “Jack of all Trades” but was primarily employed as an IT specialist with the Concord School system and later with LaFarge of North America where he specialized in the distribution of concrete to various large building projects throughout the US.

In his spare time, he enjoyed driving his Corvette and loved classic cars, bowling in leagues at OC Lanes, planting flowers, and caring for his immaculately kept lawn.  Bill was also an amateur HAM Radio operator his easy-going personality, warm sense of humor, and friendly demeanor led him to make friends across the globe.  He also loved to travel and enjoyed going North to Mackinac Island, South to Kentucky and Tennessee, and out West to Las Vegas to bowl in tournaments.

Most of all, Bill’s number one priority in life was to care for his family.  He loved his wife and children, and adored his granddaughter, Jennifer.  When his mother Ann became ill, Bill stepped up and took wonderful care of her property so she could be at ease knowing everything would be taken care of properly.
