William Thomas LaGrand

William “Billy” LaGrand, 63, of South Bend, passed unexpectedly at his home on Feb. 13, 2025. He was born on July 2, 1962, in Elkhart to the late William Dale Lagrand and Leah Betts . Surviving are his children, Desiree (Michael) Vantine, Destiney LaGrand, both of Elkhart, and Dartanya Taylor of Osceola. Billy is also survived by his grandchildren, Kaiden LaGrand, Nevaeh Vantine, Dakota Strieff, Dean Michael Vantine, Jr., and Da’Niah Bell, and his four siblings, Deb (David) Lagrand-Quintana, formerly of Elkhart, now of OR, Kenneth Dale LaGrand, William Dion LaGrand, and Earl Franklin LaGrand, all of Elkhart. 

Billy worked as a welder until an injury forced him to step away from his trade. Despite this setback, he continued to find joy in the things he loved. He cherished his time in Colorado, where he felt most at peace, and devoted himself to caring for his loyal dog, Buddy. A passionate martial arts enthusiast, Billy appreciated both the discipline and skill it required. He also had a love for video games, particularly SoCom on his PlayStation, which provided him with both entertainment and a sense of competition. His deep appreciation for classic rock was evident in the music he listened to, and he had a true talent for nurturing and growing beautiful plants, bringing life and vibrancy to his surroundings.
